The Internet Has Fallen In Love With 'Pokémon Sword's' New Farfetch'd Evolution

The leek-carrying duck Pokémon Farfetch'd has been a staple of the franchise since the days of Red & Blue on the original Game Boy. Not quite as fearsome as Charizard, as universally-beloved as Pikachu, or mysterious as Mew, Farfetch'd has remained an underrated, often-neglected choice of monster. It's rare that you'll find this bird in an Elite Four-winning lineup, that's for sure. If I remember correctly, the original Pokédex description for Farfetch'd had the very first reference to eating Pokémon, so there's that, too.

Anyway, after 22 years, this humble prince of aviation has finally gotten some much-deserved time in the spotlight. Revealed yesterday, Farfetch'd is getting its very own evolution, and it'll be exclusive to the upcoming Pokémon Sword. It's called Sirfetch'd, it wields a giant leek like it's a sword in one hand, and a leaf as a shield in the other. It is an absolutely glorious creature, and the internet - typically not the kindest place - has absolutely fallen in love with it. I'm just so happy for Farfetch'd, you guys.

The official Sword and Shield website describes Sirfetch'd as a noble creature that is "often chosen as a motif for paintings", and will stand and fight until their leek can no longer be used. It would seem that these scant details were enough for the internet to react with an outpouring of love, affection, and incredibly rapidly put together fan art. Take a look at some highlights below.

I'm gonna be honest with you, never in a million years did I ever think I'd be considering adding a goddam Farfetch'd to my team in a Pokémon game, but Pokémon Sword has only gone and given me one incredible incentive to do so. It's always handy to have a fighting type on your team, and the smug, calm, and collected visage of Sirfetch'd is one I need by my side when I stride out into the Galar region for the first time this November.
