What? Twitter is evolving?!

There are many ways to play Pokémon games - from a casual playthrough of Pokémon Sword and Shield to speeding a game at a charity event. From Pokémon Go to 'Twitch Plays Pokémon', there are a myriad of choices when it comes to interacting with the little pocket monsters. There is now a new way to play - and it's on Twitter.

One genius has worked out how to make their Twitter avatar into a working version of Pokémon Red and you can play it right now if you like. Constantin Liétard (who has the Twitter handle @screenshakes) has done an incredible job in making their own account entirely dedicated to playing Pokémon Red, pixel by pixel, step by step.

The way that people can participate, is by replying to his original tweet with the inputs listed. You can reply Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, Start, or Select to the tweet and once every 15 seconds or so the response that is most popular in that period of time will be what the character does on the screen. And as time goes on the avatar will refresh, showing the new screen. Ingenious really.

Although we shouldn't be too surprised that Liétard has managed to come up with such a project, the Twitter bio says that they're both a 3D programmer for Gameloft Montréal and a "Game Jam God" with "Temporarily Unnamed Collective" (formerly known as Borderline Games before Gearbox claimed that name was too close to the Borderlands series). All-in-all a talented programmer displaying how talented at programming they are might not be a surprise but it's still a really cool project to watch unfold on the social media website.

The way it works isn't dissimilar to Twitch Plays Pokémon, which you may not have heard of either. Recently top streamer Mizkif ran one of these games, where Twitch chat has full control over a Pokémon title and has to work together to beat it through submitting inputs into the platform's chat interaction capabilities. It's a mess, but extremely amusing and a great little community project everyone can contribute to.
