Nvidia Leak Suggests Nintendo Games Could Be Coming To PC

So here’s one that’s strictly more absolutely ridiculous rumour than genuine gonna-happen news - but, weirder things have happened in gaming, so you can never be certain.

According to one post on Reddit’s sometimes good/sometimes sh*t Gaming Leaks & Rumours board, the recent Nvidia GeForce leak - which revealed the out-now GTA Trilogy, PlayStation’s God of War’s porting to PC and the remake of Destroy All Humans! 2, all three of which were legit, among many other since-verified projects - includes information on two other interesting titles. Namely, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario + Rabbids - no info as to whether the latter is the older Kingdom Battle or 2022-due sequel Sparks of Hope.

Did someone mention Sparks of Hope?

Yes, those are Nintendo games - or at least, games released exclusively on Nintendo platforms, as Mario + Rabbids is a collaborative crossover made by Ubisoft for Nintendo’s Switch console. And Nintendo games tend to stick to Nintendo systems. There have been exceptions, like Mario and Zelda series games (wretched ones, uh, just the worst) coming out for the Philips CD-i in the 1990s, and the more recent mobile-only Super Mario Run, but traditionally if you want to play in the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule or Zebes, you’re going to need a Nintendo.

But, could Mario and pals come to PC, in the future? We’ve seen “Only on PlayStation” titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone make the leap, with God of War to come - so, why not? I mean, Nintendo is the big why not here, isn’t it - the company rarely plays nicely with others when it comes to sharing its IPs (just ask any number of fan-made projects). And with Mario games representing one of the key selling points of any new Nintendo console, and the Mario franchise as a whole being one of the biggest money-spinners in the entertainment world full stop, yeah, can’t see it.

The Reddit poster adds: “It is possible that these two games were used only for test purposes.” Which may or may not be true. What may also be true is that Nintendo ultimately surprises us - after all, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, focus on the Wii there, is a game that came out way back in 2009. And it has… whisper it… actually appeared on a non-Nintendo system, releasing for the Nvidia Shield TV in China in 2017. So, maybe, there just might be, the smallest nugget of truth to this rumour? It’s a game that’s run its course on Nintendo hardware - why not give it a chance, in high-definition, on PC?

LOL, nah.
