Official 'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Details Shared By Activision

Official 'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Details Shared By Activision

It will be the most "advanced experience in franchise history".

We reported yesterday (25 April) on comments made by industry insider Tom Henderson, about the two Call Of Duty games which Activision claims it will publish this year.

His tweet included an excerpt from text which appeared to come from official sources. However, the origin of the quotes was never claimed. The excerpt concerned two games currently in development, a sequel to Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and one to Call Of Duty Warzone, both of which are reported to release in 2022.

The quotes called 2019’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare “the most successful Call Of Duty title to date”. It said that development on the two titles is “proceeding very well”. It also claimed that Modern Warfare 2 “will be the most advanced experience in franchise history”, while Warzone 2 “features groundbreaking innovations to be revealed”.

Now a report from GamesRadar+ has found the source of the quotes from Henderson. They come from Activision Blizzard's first quarter financial results to investors. The results cover games published via Activision, which covers the Call Of Duty franchise; via Blizzard, which publishes World Of Warcraft; and King, which operates mobile games such as Candy Crush.

The report also discusses how Activision Blizzard’s revenue is down over half a billion dollars compared to the same quarter in 2021. However, this still puts its net revenue at close to $1.8 billion. The company blames the loss on disappointing results from the Call Of Duty franchise, as well as the release schedule at Blizzard, though it did report “robust growth” by King.

Blizzard are hoping for better gains next quarter as more games are released. From the financial report: “Development on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 is also progressing well. Company-wide internal testing of Diablo 4 is underway, and external testing of the player-versus-player mode of Overwatch 2 begins.”
