Last night, French game company Nacon hit us with a whole livestream of trailers and news about their upcoming games, and there was some pretty interesting stuff in there to be seen. For a start, we got a fresh gameplay trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which is set to release on 1 September on most platforms.
One nice surprise though was the announcement of a brand new, open world Terminator title. Back in May, it was rumoured that this very game could be in the works, and there you have it - it’s officially happening. Although it doesn’t have a name yet, there’s no doubt that fans will be excited about this one.

“The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic open world and features an original story that builds on the events of the official films,” a press release reads. “You play as a group of nuclear apocalypse survivors fighting to stay alive in a time period between Judgment Day and the creation of John Connor's resistance.”

This is far from the first Terminator game, of course - the first one was actually made by Bethesda, and released in 1991 on DOS (disk operating system), and there’ve been plenty more releases since. They’ve not all been winners, though - 2019’s Terminator: Resistance has a rather sad Metacritic critic score of 47 (for its PS4 version), and our own Mike Diver didn’t particularly enjoy it, either.
“Nothing here feels like it belongs in a 2019 video game - but if you pick this up for cheap a few months from now, and you're something of a swot when it comes to all things Skynet, you’ll get a few kicks out of it,” he wrote at the time. “The rest of us? Think of Resistance as you do the T-X model Terminator from Rise of the Machines. It's never going to be a classic, but at least it tried.”
Fingers crossed Nacon’s new title will be a bit better received, anyway.
