In the surprise trailer, which played during half-time at the Super Bowl, fans were excited to hear the voice and silhouette of Sir Patrick Stewart, who is known in the Marvel universe for playing Charles Xavier - better known as Professor X of the X-Men. Stewart immediately denied that it was him, before bowing to pressure and admitting that he was involved in the film

Despite the death of Stewart’s Professor X in the 2017 film Logan, Doctor Strange has allowed characters to return under the notion that they live in a different multiverse. While Stewart has admitted he doesn’t have a huge role in Disney’s latest - he only filmed for one and a half days in total - he was pleased to have brought the character back.

In an interview with Variety, Stewart spoke about stepping away from the role of Star Trek’s Jean-Luc Picard for good, following the end of season three of Paramount’s Star Trek: Picard. However, when questioned on the X-Men, he was a little more vague about whether he would like to return.

When asked if there was a future for Professor X, the 81-year old actor replied. “Charles Xavier? Yeah. There may be. You know, the whole X-Men comic series is so huge, so vast, there might be an opportunity in which he comes back. We’ll see.”

Stewart’s X-Men trilogy of the early 2000s, ending with X-Men: The Last Stand, are some of the earliest popular superhero films. While there has been no word that the mutants will be making a comeback, it would be interesting to see where this idea goes.
