Aldi, Of All Places, Is Now Selling A Decent Gaming PC

Whenever I used to go with my mum to Aldi to do the weekly shop, I'd always sneakily throw something for myself in the basket - usually a chocolate bar of some kind. I wasn't greedy, but I always took my chance when I saw it.
My dear old ma wouldn't notice until we got to the counter, at which point she was either too embarrassed to take it out or just didn't care that much. Either way, free chocolate. It's a time-honoured technique, and I can't imagine I'm the only kid who's ever pulled such a move while being dragged around on the "big" shop.
The good, if slightly unexpected, news is that the more adventurous kids out there will soon be able to try and get their parents to get them something a little bigger than a multipack of knock-off Mars Bars, though an entire gaming PC might be a little harder to slip into the trolley undetected.
That's right, as reported by GamesRadar Aldi, of all places, is now selling a Medion desktop gaming computer for £949.99. I'm not saying Aldi doesn't do decent stuff (I once picked up a lovely doormat from my local branch), but I don't think I ever could have predicted they'd start selling an actual gaming PC.
As you might expect from a supermarket that focuses on affordable products, it's not exactly the most powerful machine on the market, but it's not exactly a complete potato either. It'll definitely get you where you need to go, thanks to its Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card, 16GB DDR4-2666 RAM, and 1TB PCIe SSD.
In other words, it's more than good enough to be able to run most modern video games at medium-to-high settings, which is not the kind of PC you might have expected to find just a few feet away from the frozen meats - that's assuming you were expecting to find any kind of PC just a few feet away from frozen meats or abnormally large pigs in blankets.
It's unclear if other supermarket chains like Lidl will follow this trend and start tucking Xbox One and PS4 consoles in between the tinned peaches, but this is a pretty solid idea from Aldi, I have to say.
With Christmas around the corner, there are doubtless plenty of little kids out there who are after their first gaming PC, and plenty of parents who aren't entirely sure what their best option is. Seeing exactly what their kid asked for sitting in Aldi while they're picking up some bits for dinner could make the Christmas shop and awful lot easier.
