Unfortunately, Battlefield 2042 is under a barrage of review bombs from players who feel like it’s not on par with the rest of the series.

Imogen Mellor, who reviewed the anticipated first person shooter, found that her experience of the game swung wildly from highs to lows depending on the matches that were made. “The game EA and DICE have created here is more like a toolset to make your own fun than a great game in its own right,” she explained while praising the awesome visuals and the community’s creativity.

Of course, the game isn’t out until November 19th, but other premium players are also discovering that Battlefield 2042 has been hollowed out when compared to previous entries in the series. A thread on Reddit has been compiled of the most pressing issues that fans have with Battlefield 2042, and it is about as long as your arm. As it stands right now, there are almost 700 negative user reviews of the total 800 reviews for the game , bringing its user score to a measly 2.6 on Metacritic.

Nevertheless, it looks like the grievances would be solved with updates. There are bugs where footstep sounds are triggered from the other direction so players are killed out of nowhere, and revive doesn’t work if the player has fallen close to another object. Oh, and there’s the part where if you use inverted controls and hop into a different player’s vehicle, the controls in your game swap to the settings in theirs.

This is extremely irritating if you’ve shelled out for early access, absolutely, yet now that DICE is aware of the problems this might allow them to address these and elevate the overall state of the game. Doesn’t that sound a lot like the trajectory of a game that recently celebrated its fifth anniversary?

Previously, DICE producer Ben Walke had said that studios aren’t so hot on interacting with their communities owing to the possible backlash that the team might experience. "There's a valid way to give feedback, I don't think anyone on the team is against receiving it when it's done in a constructive way," he said in response to the way that some fans communicated their thoughts on the beta. "But the amount of personal attacks I've seen in just a few hours since it went live is disappointing."
