There are some horror franchises that have really had it rough for the past decade or so. Dino Crisis clearly isn't coming back any time soon, despite how much we might beg Capcom. Meanwhile, Left 4 Dead is clearly out of action for the foreseeable, especially with Turtle Rock Studios working on another zombie game elsewhere.

The good news is that there's a new co-op survival horror on the way that might just scratch both itches. It's called Deathground, and it basically combines the terrifying energy of Left 4 Dead matches with the threatening energy of Dino Crisis, and I'm fully here for it. Take a look at the reveal trailer below.

Developer Jaw Drop Games describes Deathground as "a desperate battle for survival against deadly AI dinosaurs". You drop onto a Jurassic Park-style island with up to two friends, and basically have to pick up a target and make it to the extraction point before the prehistoric pests chew your limbs off.

The location of your spawn point, target, and extraction point are different every game, and Jaw Drop claims that the dinosaurs can behave differently each team. Apparently their AI will adapt, and the scaly devils will react based on your squad's actions. Clever girls.

While Deathground is first-person, it's a survival horror with an emphasis on stealth first and foremost. "The game will be balanced in a way where survival horror aspects are enhanced: bullets are rare and creating noise will have consequences," Jaw Drop explains. "Distraction and out-thinking the deadly dinosaurs that roam the map is crucial to surviving."

Each of the three playable characters detailed on the game's Kickstarter page have different skills and functions during matches. There's a scout that can detect nearby dinosaurs, an engineer that can hack alarm systems and doors, and a hunter who boasts a powerful rifle that can keep the dinosaurs at bay. Dibs on the hunter from now until the end of time.

The Kickstarter also talks of four different types of dinosaur that can patrol the map in different ways: Compsognathus, Velociraptor, Allosaurus, and T-Rex. Deathground will launch with two dinosaur types, and will add more critters, classes, weapons, and more post-launch.

You can find out more about Deathground over on its Kickstarter page. At the time of writing the project has £15,500 of its £80,000 target, and a full month left of funding. Let's hope the developer can deliver on a promising concept.
