‘DOOM’ Mod Turns Classic Shooter Into Borderlands

‘DOOM’ Mod Turns Classic Shooter Into Borderlands

Character levelling, randomised loot, and a Borderlands-style shield have all been added to the original 'Doom'.

If you're looking for a Borderlands fix, you could go and buy Borderlands 3, as it will deliver everything you're looking for in a loot shooter. But what if you're looking for something a little different, a little more '90s? Maybe you should check out BorderDoom, a mod that grafts the systems of Borderlands onto id's ancient (you mean eternal - ed) shooter.

BorderDoom looks a lot like the original DOOM, but it's what's going on under the surface that changes up the game. Weapons now have randomised properties, altering how much damage they do, their firing speed and accuracy, and their number of rounds. You now also have a shield that recharges when you're not being attacked. And, on top of all that, is a leveling system for you and the monsters. You may not be able to talk to the monsters, but you do both share a sense of personal development.

You can see it all in action in the BorderDoom release trailer:

You can find out more information on the mod and download it through the ZDoom forums (via PCGN). The mod has been in development since 2013, but the full 1.0 release was put out only a couple of weeks ago, so consider this hot off the presses.

What other genres do you think should be modded into DOOM? Should it become an isometric, turn-based RPG where you lead a team of marines into Hell? Or maybe a game like They Are Billions where you are in charge of the last human bases outside the Hellmouth, fighting back the hordes of demons emerging to rip and tear mankind to shribbons?

Personally, I want to see DOOM turned into a dating simulator where you're setting up the different demons for romance. I don't know about you, but I've always seen sparks flying between the Cacodemon and the Revenant.
