First 'Command & Conquer Remastered' Gameplay Appears Online

I think it's entirely fair to say that we're all incredible excited for the upcoming Command & Conquer Remastered. Granted, I seem to keep forgetting about it until somebody reminds it's happening, but when I remember? Ooh boy, that hype is real.

EA first announced its intention to remaster the the 1995 PC classic last year, and developer Petroglyph Games has been hard at work ever since, even working with fans of the original game to make sure they get it just right.

It's been a long wait then, but we finally have our first look at what the studio has been working on and, as expected, it's a pretty damn faithful recreation of Command & Conquer with all the bells and whistles you could hope for.

You can check the brief teaser out for yourself below, which kicks off with the pixellated graphics of the original release before we're treated to a look at the updated visuals. You'll be glad to see that Petroglyph has opted to steer away from 3D models, and instead have gone with a sharper, more detailed 2D style that stays true to the original.

Petroglyph wrote in an update that the "classic" visual style was so that the developer could stay as authentic as possible to the original games." They also stressed once again that these games will be remasters, not remakes.

"As you may remember from one of the first posts, our plan is to remaster (not remake) the classic games," they wrote. "Creatively, this means our guiding light has always been to remain authentic to the original feel, and we're constantly on the lookout for ways to achieve that goal."

The good news is that you're after something a little more retro, Command & Conquer Remastered also boasts a "Legacy" visual style, meaning you'll be able to toggle between the remastered assets and the original graphics. The camera also supports a zoom feature so you can get as close (or far) from the mayhem as you'd like.

What you can see above is still a work-in-progress, and there sadly still isn't a release date for Command & Conquer Remastered just yet. Regardless, this is an exciting update to pore over while Petroglyph continue to fix bugs and get everything all nice and polished for launch.

We also know that Petroglyph is planning a remaster of Red Alert, but it's unclear if they've started work on that yet or will simply shift over to that one once Command & Conquer Remastered is done and dusted.
