Humble Bundle is offering a "Thrills & Chills" bundle which includes terrifying titles like Dusk, Pacify, Layers of Fear 2, The Blackout Club, and more, all on the cheap.
The games in the sale are worth about $180 altogether, so this is like stealing candy from a baby. Except, your purchase of the "Thrills & Chills" bundle supports UNICEF, a charity which works with disadvantaged children and young people across the globe. So, it's actually like stealing candy for a baby. You'll also be able to choose a second charity to support with your purchase, and it's worth giving the extensive list a once-over for your local charity, or even learning about a new one.
So, the collection is split into tiers depending on how much you want to spend. Paying $1/£0.70 unlocks Pacify and Distraint 2. The former is set in a creepy house where funerals and seances were held, and rumour has it that the ghost of a little girl is seen from time to time in the windows. Your job is to expel the evil from this place, and you are able to take on the task alone or with friends in the game's multiplayer mode. Distraint 2, following on from Distraint, is a 2D side scrolling psychological horror about a man who sold his soul to get ahead in his career.
The next tier gets you these two games, as well as The Letter, Darq, Blood: Fresh Supply, Desolate, and Detention. To me, the standout here is Darq, a recent entrant into the genre which was developed by one person, and its art direction will remind you of Tim Burton films. The protagonist suddenly realises that he is trapped in a dream, and the nefarious forces that trap him here quickly transform his prison into a nightmare. Stealth and physics-manipulating puzzles are its main attractions, along with eerie sound design by Hitman and Cyberpunk 2077's Bjørn Jacobsen. This tier will cost you $10/£8 ish, which is a frankly stupendous price for all of these games.
Last but not least, the $15/£12 tier gets you all of the aforementioned plus Dusk, The Blackout Club, and Layers Of Fear 2. 90s-inspired Dusk sees players taking on a sect of mystical backwater cultists, only to discover that even darker forces are at work. The Blackout Club, made by a team of BioShock developers, pits four players against a monster that is only visible when they close their eyes. And, Layers Of Fear 2 follows an actor who is invited to a stranded ocean liner by the director of their latest film, and the world begins to rupture as they go deeper and deeper into the hull of the ship.
To unlock all of the games in the bundle, it'll cost you approximately $15/£12. If the thought of a Halloween in lockdown fills you with dread, then the "Thrills & Chills" bundle will sort you right out with a range of single and multiplayer horrors. And, it's for charity. Can't go wrong, can you.
