'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' Blasts To Top Of Steam Charts

Halo: The Master Chief Collection finally came to PC yesterday with Halo: Reach leading the charge. Looking at the numbers over the last 24 hours or so, it's safe to say that the much-loved prequel has already made a big impression on Steam.

While The Master Chief Collection is available on both Steam and the Microsoft Store, it's Valve's digital storefront where it seems to be making the most noise. According to Steam's own metrics, the collection is currently the number-one selling game on there. Meanwhile, Halo: Reach - which is also available as a standalone purchase - is in third place.

Remember when fans kind of lost their minds and started sending developer 343 Industries pizza after it was announced that Reach and The Master Chief Collection would be coming to PC? Yeah. PC gamers really wanted this, and the current stats speak for themselves.

While the games contained in the collection - Reach, Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST, and Halo 4 - are all pretty old now, this marks the first time a lot of them have actually been available on PC.

It's also worth noting that the Halo games that were available on PC ran through Games For Windows Live which, you know... is less than ideal for most of us. Basically then, this new approach from Microsoft is a Very Good Thing Indeed for PC gamers and Halo fans everywhere.

The Master Chief Collection is also bringing in a respectable number of players on Steam. The game is currently in seventh place on the Steam Top 100, with over 56,000 players at the time of writing and a peak of over 160,000. That's a fair way ahead of Monster Hunter World in eighth place, with its 42,000 players and peak of 57,000.

This is all doubly impressive when you consider that Reach is currently the only game available in the collection on PC. 343 has previously said it intends to add the rest of the games in chronological order, so expect Combat Evolved next. We don't know exactly when the next game will land, but for now let's just bask in the joy of seeing Halo dominate Steam.

Microsoft previously announced that it planned to release more of its exclusive games on Steam as part of its plan to make gaming more accessible to everyone. Based on the reaction so far, I'd say the house of Xbox made the right call.
