Larian Studios has gleefully revealed the romance statistics for the early access period of Baldur's Gate 3, and goodness gracious. You are a salacious lot, aren't you.

Understandably, the developer didn't just collect this data for the hot goss. As a product that is still in progress, player activities in early access helps the team identify where bugs have slipped through the net, and how to improve the overall experience when playing one of the most anticipated games of the genre. These inferences were used to create a "big" patch that addresses a range of issues, like missing cinematics, lighting, sound settings, relevant tutorial messages, and a number of bugs and crashes. The whole list is found here, for your perusal.

It has also revealed how players have diverged and converged over the course of the determinant storyline. Almost everyone has arrived at The Underdark, but, more than two-fifths of players who jumped into the spiders' tunnel were without Feather Fall. As a result, they really did their knees (and the rest of their body) in. In addition, those who tried to flatter the boastful goblin king by kissing their feet, only 5% of players left with the tyrant's toe ring. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Regarding the Tieflings and Minthara, three-quarters of the community sided with the former, and the remaining quarter agreed to join her hunt.

Enough of these squeaky-clean statistics! I know what you're actually here for! So, here goes. Of all of the players in Baldur's Gate 3, only one per cent slept without a companion. Their stalwart commitment to the storyline is admirable, or perhaps, it's possible that they didn't meet anyone who was their type. Those who did play out their fantasies in a fantasy world fancied Gale, the beardy wizard, quite a bit. He stole 33% of players' hearts, and the disdainful half-elf Shadowheart was romanced by 31% of players.

Interestingly, Larian Studios did say that the romance data didn't actually tally with the characters that appear to be most popular with the community, which is an intriguing find. As announced in September, multiplayer steamy sex scenes will be possible in Baldur's Gate 3, which may skew the romance data into different dynamics.

And, as a wholesome note to conclude on, players have petted the dog over 400,000 times in Baldur's Gate 3. It's what they deserve.
