Huge New Viking MMORPG 'Odin: Valhalla Rising' Looks Epic

Odin: Valhalla Rising, a free-to-play MMORPG from developer Lionheart Studios, is ticking all of the boxes for us at GAMINGbible, and new gameplay videos show off how stunning it is.

In a seamless open world inspired by the ruthless lives and folklore of the Vikings, there are four confirmed continents: Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, and Alfheim. Each of these regions are gorgeous in their own way, with desolate ruins, lush boreal woodlands, and glittering icy landscapes.

Across the world, players will encounter fearsome beasts and horrific monsters, as well as villages and settlements with a colourful cast of characters to meet. For example, humans are scattered in the continent of Midgard, and giants populate the realm of Jotunheim, whereas elves shut out all other races from their home in Alfheim. Only dwarves are able to endure the endless winters of Niflheim with their ingenuity and resourcefulness.

Players choose one of the four character classes in their journey, and these are Warrior, Rogue, Sorceress, and Priests. In addition, in the story element of the game, there is an incoming threat from the god Loki, who is leading a legion of entities from the Void to overthrow the harmony of the other realms. Most excitingly to me personally, though, are the mounts available in Odin: Valhalla Rising. In one of the new gameplay trailers, we see a character riding a horse through Niflheim. A classic choice, and it shows that there are movement options.

But then Lionheart Studios were like, "let's give the people what they really want." You'll also be able to ride a ginormous maned wolf, a fluffy moth, an eagle with beautiful burnt-orange plumage, and a dragon. The trailer shows us a whole flock (pack? horde? what's the correct collective for a group of scaly winged lizards?) of dragons with their riders. Sign me up. And, the monster designs are fantastic. There's something that looks like a panther with tentacles and eyes swivelling on its hide, and something that looks like the Demogorgon that rises from the sea and attacks a longboat in droves.

It's coming to PC and mobile platforms some time in 2021, and we cannot wait.
