I don't suppose many of us have ever wondered what it would be like to spend a day in the life of the Pope. It's not really a job or a lifestyle that screams excitement, let's face it. But on the off-chance that you are curious, the upcoming Pope Simulator could be just what you're looking for.
It currently has a listing on Steam (thanks, Gamebyte) and is apparently "coming soon". So if you've ever wondered what life is like in the Vatican, it doesn't look like you'll have long to wait. There's even a trailer to give you a taste of what you might expect, which you can check out below (here's a direct link).
The blurb on the Steam page reads: "Realistic simulator of the Pope - face the problems of the modern world from the point of view of the head of the Church. Make decisions that will weigh on the fate of humanity, convert and support the crowds. Plan the church's strategic actions through faithful envoys. Manage your travels around the globe. Fight for peace."
There has been a major influx of simulators over the last few years, allowing you to experience the roles of certain jobs or lifestyles that you wouldn't normally get the chance to. On one end of the scale, there are games such as Microsoft's upcoming Flight Simulator, all the way down to the less glamorous Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Some of the features included in Pope Simulator are being able to "influence the world's fortunes", "interfere in international politics", "fight for peace on Earth", and use the "strength of your faith to help others". Essentially, it sounds like it's leaning far more towards a strategy game than a simulator, so there is some potential there, even if the subject matter doesn't grab you.
I'll never forget when first heard of the existence of Farming Simulator, a few years ago - I don't think I stopped laughing for a full five minutes. I mean, come on, a farming simulator? Turns out I really enjoyed it when I finally got around to playing it, last year, so maybe we shouldn't judge Pope Simulator too harshly just yet.
And it's not the only game to be based heavily around religion on the horizon. The upcoming I Am Jesus Christ will let you play as the man himself - though, like Pope Simulator, it doesn't have a release date quite yet.
