Every time I think I'm done with Capcom's fantastic Resident Evil 2 Remake, there's yet another ingenious mod that pulls me right back in. The latest alteration to the survival horror adventure swaps out the relentless stalker Mr X and replaces him with IT's Pennywise The Dancing Clown. If there was anything more terrifying than the possibility of opening a door in the Raccoon City Police Department to see the hulking Mr X marching down the hall towards you, it's opening a door to see a goddam child-murdering demon clown making a beeline straight to you.
This horrendously creepy mod is the work of a YouTuber called Marcos RC, who I seriously have to commend for the level of detail and accuracy he put into the Pennywise skin. It'd be one thing if Mr X just had some clown makeup slapped over him, but this mod fully replaces the trenchcoat-wearing mutant with a horrifyingly realistic version of Pennywise. Given IT: Chapter Two recently hit cinemas, and with Halloween coming up, now would be the perfect time to turn off all the lights, boot up Resident Evil 2, and let the Dancing Clown chase you through the dark corridors of a police station. Nightmares guaranteed.

As if the impending threat of a demonic clown hellbent on chasing you through a building full of zombies wasn't already panic-inducing enough, another YouTuber has taken Marcos RC's work and added twisted fairground music on top whenever Pennywise appears. That could genuinely be enough to give me heart failure, so I don't think I'll getting too involved with it. You can check it out for yourself below, though.
Out of all the mods for Resident Evil 2 Remake I've seen so far (and I've seen plenty), this is quite possibly the best and most terrifying. Before Pennywise entered the fray, there were plenty of inspired mods that were absolutely fantastic, including one that pitted Shaggy from Scooby Doo against ten Mr Xs, and another one that put Mr X himself in a skimpy thong. That one was terrifying for entirely different reasons.
While the majority of memes seemed to involve doing something stupid with Mr X (see, skimpy thong) there were some other cool mods that tried to change up the gameplay even more, including a mod that aimed to frame the entire game with the fixed camera angle perspective of the original, and another that threw the entire nightmare into first-person.
