Resident Evil 8 Ripoff 'Biohazard Village' Briefly Appears On Steam, Looks Hilariously Awful

It's safe to say that fans are incredibly excited to play Resident Evil Village in 2021. Not only will it be Capcom's first next-gen Resident Evil game, but it'll also continue story threads that have been left dangling since 2017's excellent Resident Evil 7. Perhaps that excitement is why one developer recently released a game called Biohazard Village on Steam.

While Biohzaard Village doesn't look to be an exact ripoff of Resident Evil Village (which would be hard given we don't know much about it), it certainly borrows a lot more than I'm sure Capcom would like to. In fact the game, which was first spotted by Polygon, already appears to have been pulled from Steam. Clicking on the game's store page simply redirects to the Steam home page, as if Biohazard Village never existed in the first place... which I'm sure is what Capcom wanted.

Biohazard Village /
Forest Games

Of course Biohazard Village could never have remained on Steam under that name, given that it's been confirmed that's the name Resident Evil Village will go by in Japan. A shame, as developer Forest Games' version of Biohazard Village sounded... interesting.

"A third-person shooter in which you will play as a girl fighting against a zombie in a town where a man-made disaster has occurred," the description reads. I've taken this straight from a screenshot of the Steam page, so I guess you really do only fight against the one zombie? I'm assuming that's a typo or mistranslation, however, as a zombie game with just the one zombie might not be that great.

"People turned into zombies," the description continues, seemingly confirming the involvement of more than one undead monster. "There is only you, your weapon and a huge number of zombies in the post-apocalyptic village. You must win to survive." I think they meant survive to win, but I suppose it kind of works either way.

You can actually see a little of Biohazard Village in action in the video below, thanks to YouTuber Kitty Rawr. I think it's best if I just let it speak for itself...

Perhaps Biohazard Village will eventually return to Steam with a new name and a new lease on life, but I doubt it. Judging by what I've seen of the game running, it looks like it was cobbled together in under an hour. We're probably better off waiting for the real deal to hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC next year.
