'Rust' Is Getting Its First Paid DLC, And Fans Are Going To Love It

The bizarre and brutal multiplayer survival adventure Rust first launched way back in 2013. Facepunch Studios have spent the years regularly adding new content and updates, but for the first time since hitting Early Access all those years ago, it's been announced that this uniquely odd cult favourite will be getting paid DLC.
The first ever premium DLC for Rust is about as strange as you'd expect. Announced via the game's devblog, we can expect no less than ten playable instruments. Among the lineup of musical content we can expect several recognisable instruments with a post-apocalyptic twist.
There are a few brilliantly-designed (and named) instruments in the mix, including the xylobones, the shovel bass, the junkyard drunk kit, and the plumber's trumpet. That last one fully sounds like a particularly filthy sex act, doesn't it?
Facepunch explains on the devblog that these are fully playable instruments that aim to be more than just a novelty. To that end, they've apparently even created an entirely new control scheme with which you'll be able to make sweet music with friends or alone.
""You can now bind the standard note range (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) to any key. From there you can bind sharp and octave modifier keys which allow you to play over 20 notes on some instruments," the dev explains. The new system will also work with the acoustic guitar that currently exists in Rust, and you'll even be able to plug in a MIDI device and play select instruments in real time.
Given that this is clearly a substantial addition to the game, the DLC will cost $10, though Facepunch notes that it'll be discounted at launch. The music pack is expected to launch on December 5th, but you can try them out for yourself right now on Rust's staging server branch.
The good news is that if you don't fork out for the DLC, you won't be left out on the fun. If you've got a mate who's paid for the content, they can craft an instrument for you to play. Alternatively, you can murder another player and take their gear. This is still Rust, after all.
Just think of all the virtual naked jam sessions you can have with mates that will inevitably be interrupted by other players when they storm your merry band and murder and loot you. Glorious. Between this and the news that the game is coming to PS4 and Xbox One next year, it's a good time to get into Rust.
