Spider-Slaying Arachnophobia Game 'Kill It With Fire' Gets A Release Date

Spider spider burning bright.

It's my firm and unchanging opinion that spiders are absolute bastards that crept into this dimension through some kind of portal to hell. They're nothing but hairy, scuttling nightmare units designed to frighten and unsettle folk, and what do they even need all those legs for anyway?

That's why Kill It With Fire looks very much to be up my street. It's a first-person game all about arachnophobia, and the completely understandable way in which people who fear spiders react when the eight-legged fiends creep into view. You've probably heard of the game before now, but check out the trailer below if you missed it the first time round.

Developed by Casey Donnellan Games, Kill It With Fire is all about eliminating spiders by any means necessary. Players explore a variety of environments and essentially completely destroy their surroundings as they battle the creepy-crawlies. Flamethrowers, guns, hammers, shuriken, and more are all at your disposal. It looks... cathartic.

"The spider - mankind's most ancient and deadly nemesis," the Steam description reads. "As a licensed Kill It With Fire exterminator, it's time to fight back! Assemble your arsenal of increasingly excessive weapons, track spiders across suburbia, and burn everything in your path!

"To defeat spiders you must exploit their one weakness: FIRE. Or bullets. Or explosions, throwing stars, gettin' smushed by stuff...pretty much anything, really. But that doesn't mean it'll be easy - first you've gotta find the spiders. Use state-of-the-art arachnid tracking technology to pinpoint your quarry's location among hundreds of potential hiding spots - then, torch everything and smash the spider with a frying pan after it runs out. It's the only way to be sure."

The good news is that we don't have much longer to wait before we can get our hands on this arachnid action. Casey Donnellan announced last night that Kill It With Fire will be headed to Steam on August 13th. There'll also be a brand-new demo tomorrow that includes new missions, levels, environments, and even new spiders to kill. Sounds suitably horrifying.

As someone who takes a dim view of spiders, I'm particularly interested in getting my hands on this game. I'm the kind of person that would leap across the room with the force of 1,000 dying stars if I so much as caught a glimpse of a hairy set of spindly legs anyone near me. The chance to enter a virtual space and vent my frustrations should make for some fairly cheap therapy.
