'Star Wars Battlefront II' Modder Adds Pope John Paul II As Playable Character

Episode IV: A New Pope

Star Wars Battlefront II is a game that enjoyed a major renaissance after a seriously rocky start. The EA-published/DICE-developed shooter was released to the world in 2017 with all the grace and class of a drunk bloke at a festival having a hurried wee in the bushes. Fortunately DICE, along with a dedicated community, refused to abandon the game. I'm pleased to report that Star Wars Battlefront II is now... not half bad. It's... pretty good, even.

One of things that's helped keep the game alive on PC is doubtless the vibrant and imaginative modding community. In recent months, for example, we've seen modders share their love for The Mandalorian with mods based on Baby Yoda and the show's title character.

That's all well and good, but this most recent mod is quite easily the best Battlefront II has ever seen. Hell, it might just be the best mod gaming has ever seen. I mean... just look at it.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the mod we never knew we needed - because it's so damn weird - is finally here. As spotted by GameRant, Pope John Paul II, the head of the Catholic church from 1978 until his death in 2005, is now a playable character in Star Wars Battlefront II.

If you've ever wanted to see the former head of the Catholic church cutting down swathes of Stormtroopers, and I think we all have, this is the mod for you. Check it out in all its glory via the trailer below.

This... truly incredible mod is the work of creator xD0IT. Exactly what possessed them to introduce Pope John Paul II to the galactic fray is unclear, just be glad they did.

The Pope is modeled on Kylo Ren's character, so the two share an identical fighting style. However, this digital version does stand out thanks to his slick yellow lightsaber. He also stands out because he looks like Pope John Paul II, which Adam Driver's Kylo Ren, as far as I am aware, does not.

If you want to download this mod and tear it up as Pope John Paul II for yourself, you can do just that. Simply head on over NexusMods and follow the installation instructions. Before you know it, you'll be living out your dreams. You know, provided your dreams involve playing a science fiction shooter as a galactic overlord that's been modded to resemble a former head of the Catholic church.
