Steam Halloween Is Now Live With Some Truly Gruesome Deals

'Tis the season to be saving: the Steam Halloween Sale has just gone live, and there are truly terrifying titles on offer for a fraction of their original price.

The promotion has been carved and chopped up into genres of horror, so there's something for everyone. In the adventure horrors, some stupefying sales are available, with Emily Wants To Play and its sequel for £5, Pagan Peak for £3.26, and The Cat Lady for £2.44. Action horror games sees The Evil Within 2 slashed by 50%, Darq cut by 70%, and the first F.E.A.R. game knocked off by 75%. And, if you're after a survival horror romp, The Forest and Daymare: 1998 are both under £7 individually, and Dead By Daylight is free to play for three days, and the Deluxe Edition is less than £10.

Even franchises like Resident Evil have not escaped. Resident Evil 2 Remake is £14, which is a serious steal. We think it is the "perfect mix of stealth, combat, puzzle-solving and conventional (i.e. terrifying) survival," and "not once do you feel safe in its many close-quarter yet seemingly ever-expanding areas." Resident Evil 3 Remake is half price, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is (you guessed it) £7. But, if you've got a hankering for the classics, picking up Resident Evil, 0, Revelations, and Revelations 2 will set you back just £14.

Now, for some choice cuts of the Steam Halloween Sale. SOMA is a whopping 90% off, saving you more than £20 on one of the scariest horror games ever (in my humble opinion). What makes SOMA so unsettling is its slow-burn of psychological degradation and ominously silent environments. In the game, you play as Simon Jarrett, who was involved in a car crash which killed his passenger and left him with intense migraines.

He volunteers for an experimental treatment which will scan his brain for the damage and bleeding, but when he pulls off the headset, he is somewhere else. Trapped inside the corridors of a grimy scientific facility where fusions of dead humans and corrupted robots hunt him, it's clear he's not in Canada anymore. I can't say much more because of spoilers, but SOMA is an excellent game.

If you're up for a Frictional Games fright fest, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will cost you just under £5, which is an awesome deal. Though it's not in the sale, snapping up Amnesia: Rebirth simultaneously will bring the basket to approximately £28. Not too shabby. Rebirth is set almost one hundred years after the events of The Dark Descent, and follows an archaeologist named Tasi. She awakens alone after a plane crash in the Algerian desert, with no recollection of what happened or where her crew have gone. As she progresses into the caves and even across dimensions, she discovers that multiple worlds have converged with horrific consequences.

Peruse the depths of the Steam Halloween Sale, if you dare. The PlayStation Halloween Sale is also alive and kicking, boasting cool savings on chilling titles like Alien: Isolation - The Collection, Little Nightmares, and Bloodborne.
