The original 'Red Dead Redemption' never got a release on PC. The game was a huge hit on Xbox and PlayStation, and PC players called for the series to make the jump to PC for years but Take-Two Interactive, the game's publisher, never relented. That seems to have changed with the sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on PC in November, only a year after its release on consoles. However, despite Take-Two and Rockstar having no plans to release the game on PC, the publisher has filed a lawsuit against a team of fans trying to get the console game working on PC.
The Red Dead Redemption Damned Enhancement Project was a plan to take the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the original Red Dead Redemption and port them to PC. More than that, the team was planning on improving on the console versions, updating the graphics and even adding additional features.
The team looked like they might well have been able to deliver on that promise, releasing a teaser trailer of what their updated version of the game looked like (you can watch it here on mobile):

That looks to be coming to an end now, though, as on December 26 Take-Two filed a lawsuit against the dev team.
Take-Two's lawsuit claims that the team is making unauthorised changes to the game that breach the user license agreement. "Take-Two brings this action to maintain control over its world-famous video games in the face of Wyckoff's publicly stated intent to distribute unauthorized software files that would dramatically change the content of Take-Two's video games," the suit reads (via Torrent Freak).
Interestingly, the suit states that the team's plan to port the Red Dead Redemption map into the Red Dead Redemption 2 game will "reduce interest in purchasing a future release of RDR1 or a RDR1 add-on map for RDR2". Though, Take-Two doesn't say that it intends to release such a map pack. That would be an interesting expansion for the game, though, wouldn't it?

As to the Red Dead Redemption Damned team, their page on the GTAforums has been updated to state that the project has been cancelled.
