While you might be prepping for New Year's Eve by buying in some fireworks, laying on a spread for friends, or playing a big pile of games in the warmth and comfort of your gaming nest, you might not be thinking about the G-Man - the eerily threatening suited man from the Half-Life games. That's okay, he's not one to make himself known at an event. That said, he's not forgotten about you.
The G-Man's voice actor Mike Shaprio has posted a special New Year's message from his Twitter account, one that speaks of strange tidings to come.
With the muffled sounds of people singing Auld Lang Syne in the background, the trippingly sinister voice of the G'Man says "Should auld acquaintances be forgot? Well, after so much time, some things can prove difficult to remember. See you in the new year and do prepare for consequences."

Not exactly a toast to crack open a bottle of champagne to. Still, if you're wanting to stick in the memories of friends at parties tonight as the weirdly sinister presence then I heartily recommend quietly asking the person nearest you "Should old acquaintances be forgot?" after the gang wraps up a run of Auld Lang Syne. And, after all, isn't the aim a New Year's party to do just that?
The G-Man is, of course, teasing at the fact there's a new Half-Life game being released in 2020, the first since 2007. Half-Life: Alyx is a virtual reality game set just before the events of Half-Life 2, in which you'll play as Alyx Vance, the tough as nails member of the resistance movement. It doesn't appear Gordon is on the scene, and so the game will follow her desperate efforts to keep ahead of the Combine, Earth's alien occupiers, and make sure the resistance stays alive.
This creepy video has got me hoping for a regular G-Man video on major international events. Who needs the Queen's speech on Christmas day when you could have the G-Man sat in front of a fireplace, rounding up the year with a sinister hiss?
