Whichever platform you choose to play it on, there's no denying that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a beauty. From the snow-flecked mountains and stormy oceans of Skellige to the warn-torn fields of Velen, CD Projekt RED created a world that looks beautiful. Hell it even looks good on Switch for the most part, which is a real testament to the overall design of the fantasy realm.

Of course there's no question that PC will always be the best place to play The Witcher 3 if you're solely interested in making the visuals shine. A high-end PC allows players to fiddle with settings until Geralt positively gleams, and that's long before you factor any graphics mods into the equation.

Which brings us to HalkHogan's stunning The Witcher 3 Reworked mod. As spotted by Kotaku, this particular graphical overhaul mod has been in development years, and that time and effort really shows. Everything in the world has been beautifully reworked with new and improved 4K textures, making a great-looking game that much more attractive.

Take a look at in action below (or via this link if you'd rather go straight to the source). I'm a sucker for realistic water in a video game, so I'm especially impressed with the way the rivers and waterfalls in the game have been so handsomely retooled.

If you want to check out this mod for yourself, simply head here and follow the installation instructions. HalkHogan notes that the mod's impact on the game's performance mainly depends on your video card, but that it shouldn't affect it much.

"Modification requires minimum a 3GB VRAM for smooth gameplay," they explain. "For best results 4GB is recommended. Possible decrease in fps are 0-5 which depend on PC spec, game settings and in-game location. On GTX 970/AMD R9 290X and higher there should be no fps drop. Also in some cases, modification can give smoother gameplay."

I have to say, this is really making me wish I owned The Witcher 3 on PC. It's also making me wish I owned a PC that could actually play The Witcher 3 without bursting into flames, but somehow I don't think my crappy little laptop could handle it. For now I'll probably just watch this mod trailer on repeat and think about what could have been.
