Capcom shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to delivering Resident Evil remakes. Complete reboots of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 have now been released to much success, and there's even talk of a Resident Evil 4 remake scheduled for 2022. Not that anybody seems particularly enamoured by the idea, mind.

While I'm always happy for Capcom to churn out as many games in its iconic survival horror franchise as it can, I do wish the company would spare a thought for Dino Crisis. Fans have been dreaming of a remake or reboot in the dinosaur-flavoured horror series for years now, and it seems with each new Resi remake we're taken one step further away from that dream.

Still, if Capcom won't do it, we always have fans who are willing to deliver. While this latest Resident Evil 3 mod is hardly the Dino Crisis remake we crave so dearly, it does inject the recently released horror game with some much-needed dinosaur action. The aptly-named Dino Evil 3 mod (thanks, PC Gamer) does exactly what it says on the tin: the classic zombies are replaced with dinosaurs who - much like the zombies - would love to eat you.

Check it out for yourself in the video above (or via this here link). There's only one kind of dinosaur at the time of writing (a much smaller T-Rex type critter) but this is only version 0.1 so I guess we could see more prehistoric pests added as time passes.

Watching these scaly scumbags roar and stagger towards you down darkened alleys and cramped houses is bloody terrifying. I think I'd take my chances with a regular old zombie. On the whole, this an absolutely outstanding effort, and I really dig the custom animations and sound effects that make the monsters that much more believable.

This is certainly the closest we've come to a Dino Crisis remake yet, and I don't say that lightly.

You can download and play around with Dino Evil 3 now. If nothing else, it's as good a way as any to keep the flame alive while we wait for an official Dino Crisis revival. Let's be honest though guys, we're probably in for a long wait. There are an awful lot of Resident Evil games Capcom has yet to remaster before it turns its attention to other franchises.
