'Visage' Looks Like The Horror Game 'P.T' Fans Have Been Waiting For

From SadSquare Studio, psychological horror Visage is on its way in time for Halloween, and it looks like the unholy spawn of P.T. and Phasmophobia.

Set in what seems to be an ordinary house on an ordinary street, the legacy of P.T. shines on Visage with a sticky, sepulchral sheen. The player is trapped here, and the myriad rooms, halls, and stairs transform without warning. Within these four walls, terrible tragedies have happened: cruel depravities, horrific deaths, and unspeakable events have left their mark, and echo from the other side. In this purgatorial state, the player will explore these mazes and discover the truth behind this cursed place... or join the ghosts that stalk the halls.

Possessing a "slow-paced, atmospheric world that combines both uncannily comforting and horrifyingly realistic environments," the game has been slowly yet steadily improved from its time in Early Access. In fact, I was wondering where Visage had ended up only the other day, and its positive reviews on Steam show that the three years in development has been time well spent. "Whatever drugs this dude was on when he created this, I'll take two," said one reviewer. "It's creepy, it's difficult, and it's a blast. I dig it."

Regarding the difficulty, the player's investigations of the house will not be explicated in any way, in order to achieve an "unconventional" twist on the genre. Only a very small number of hints are offered, and the devil is in the details (occasionally literally). This, combined with the sanity system and no abilities to fend off or defeat the entities in the house, leads to a prolonged and petrifying experience where every step you take will draw you deeper into the nightmare.

Visage launches for PC on October 30th, so it's practically perfect for a gaming night on Halloween. While you're here, there are a whole host of haunting sales and giveaways for horror games right now: Costume Quest 2 and Layers of Fear 2 are free for PC on the Epic Games Store. In addition, the "Thrills & Chills" Humble Bundle is worth $180, and all purchases support UNICEF and a second charity of your choice. Last but not least, Zelter is essentially Stardew Valley meets The Walking Dead, and if that's not sold it to you, then I just don't know what will.
