Classic city-builder Pharaoh is coming back in less than a month

Classic city-builder Pharaoh is making a comeback on PC in less than a month to dawn a new era for the series, quite literally.

Classic city-builder Pharaoh is making a triumphant comeback on PC in less than a month to dawn a new era for the series, quite literally.

Developed by Triskell Interactive, the revived Pharaoh: A New Era is in good hands with the indie developer already creating two other city builders, Lethis - Path of Progress as well as Lethis - Daring Discoverers.

However, Triskell Interactive now has the backing of Dotemu, who has published the likes of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, Streets of Rage 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and more.

Pharaoh: A New Era is a remake of the original Ancient-Egyptian-themed game that was released for PC in 1998, developed then by Impressions Games and published by Sierra Studios. “The legendary city-builder returns. Lead the creation of one of the greatest civilizations the world has ever seen in this 4K remake with modernised UI,” reads the official description. “Build monuments, manage your population through hundreds of hours of gameplay and explore 4,000 years of history through more than 50 missions.”

The Pharaoh remake which takes place over 15 centuries, and two dozen generations promises over 100 hours of gameplay. So it should keep us very busy, to say the least. Furthermore, it also has snazzy new 4K visuals, an updated User Interface, as well as improved gameplay mechanics and a reworked soundtrack.

As reported by Eurogamer, the Pharaoh remake was intended to release in 2020, however, it suffered quite a hefty delay. Though to be fair, can a historically-themed video game really be all that late at this point?

Hopefully, if this remake proves to be a hit, it will come to consoles, because I can see this being especially enjoyable on the Nintendo Switch. Pharaoh: A New Era has a release date of 15th, February 2023 for PC and is currently available to pre-order via Steam.
