Pirates Of The Caribbean Actor Calls For Johnny Depp's Return As Jack Sparrow

Pirates Of The Caribbean Actor Calls For Johnny Depp's Return As Jack Sparrow

One of Depp's old crewmates has a plan to include the actor in future films.

The Pirates of the Caribbean films, at this point, are legendary. Though the crew may have changed from film to film, one aspect stayed the same and that’s the character of Captain Jack Sparrow. The drunk sailor is instantly recognisable, constantly entertaining, and a legend in his own right, thanks to the work of actor Johnny Depp, but with his recent controversy surrounding legal action from his ex-wife Amber Heard, there are questions of whether he should return as Sparrow in future projects.

But now, as reported by Express (via Comicbook), one of Johnny Depp’s fellow cast members, Kevin McNally, has come forward to show his support for the actor and encourage the movies to continue casting Depp. McNally played Mr Gibbs in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, a character firmly loyal to Captain Jack Sparrow and the gang.

In an interview with the Express, he says: “I've never seen a hint of any dark side to Johnny. I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don't see any impediment for him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow.”

He continues: “I think there was a general feeling that without Jack there is no Pirates franchise. And there's probably a lot of truth in that. But now there have been questions about that, certainly why not have other Pirate films and certainly then why not have Jack back or Jack playing a different part. I mean I was musing about this the other day and you can easily think of stories in which maybe somebody is looking for Jack and come to Mr Gibbs and say, ‘How would I find Jack?’ And so have a whole bunch of people on a trek to find the legendary Jack Sparrow. You can certainly keep those names alive, even in a film that doesn’t necessarily contain the [original] characters too much.”

I think there are a lot of people who would agree that without Sparrow, the Pirates films may not feel like the series anymore. There have been main cast changes over the years but Depp has firmly stayed at the helm. If Disney were to reinvent the series, there’s no knowing what it will decide.
