Upcoming Assassin's Creed sequel may see return of Black Flag's Edward Kenway

Is that Edward Kenway we spy in the distance?

In light of the success of Assassin’s Creed Nexus, fans are wondering who else may return to the franchise in the Nexus sequel. A lot of fans are putting their money (figuratively speaking) on Edward Kenway featuring in the next game and, honestly, a lot of evidence supports that theory.

In the newly released VR title, players get the chance to relive three fan-favourite assassins’ memories: Ezio, Kassandra, and Connor. Arguably, it’s AC 2’s Ezio that a lot of fans returned for, but the facts remain that delivering memories from some of the most popular assassins is Ubisoft’s goal.

Bearing that in mind, seeing Black Flag’s Kenway return isn’t a stretch at all. After all, Kenway is one of the fandoms’ favourite characters, his rogueish ways hailing him as one of the greats from the entire series. “Edward is a great character and I feel like he deserves at least a sequel or a short movie, like it was for Ezio,” said one dedicated fan when singing the protagonist’s praises.

The love is so strong for the beloved AC pirate, that one Nexus fan has compiled a list of characters and in-game mechanics they’d like to see in the sequel, with Edward Kenway close to the top of the list. Kenway would be especially useful in naval situations, as touched upon by one gamer during the discussions. “I could also see naval combat with Edward or Kassandra also being pretty cool,” said Redditor M-CDevinW.

But don’t just take our words, or that of other fans, as the only proof – go, experience AC Nexus for yourselves. Then you might see just how likely Kenway’s return is. Besides, Nexus is a game that allows you to “wear the hidden blade on your own wrist”, giving you more control than previous titles; even if you don’t care which characters return, that's a tangible experience few will want to miss.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR is available on Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 2, and Meta Quest 3.
