Cyberpunk 2077 developers are finally teasing multiplayer

Cyberpunk 2077 developers are finally teasing multiplayer

Multiplayer could be coming to the Cyberpunk sequel

We have so many hopes and dreams for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, one of which being the inclusion of multiplayer, a possibility the developers are teasing.

As someone who doesn’t often play in co-op mode, I can’t say multiplayer is at the top of my list for CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi adventure. However, I appreciate its value for a lot of players, as too do the devs if the latest reports are to be believed.

In an interview with Reuters, CD Projekt’s joint CEO Adam Badowski discussed the brand’s intention to have at least 80 employees working on the Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed ‘Orion’, before the year’s end.

How glorious is Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty?

Currently, a lot of resources are being put into the next The Witcher title. However, the fact that the devs are still intending to have a select group of creatives working on Orion alongside the Witcher 4 bodes well for the sequel, in our opinion.

During the course of the interview, Badowski also mentioned that the company is “considering” multiplayer for the sequel, though he wouldn’t elaborate on that further for the time being. Nonetheless, the tease of multiplayer has been made and so our hopes increase.

Cyberpunk 2077 was originally meant to include multiplayer options, however, due to how poorly the game was received during its launch, those plans were scrapped while the devs focused on making the game playable. Undeniably, CD Projekt succeeded. So much so that fans believe, if the game had been released in 2023, it would have claimed the GOTY title.

A lot of possibilities are open to the devs when it comes to broadening the vast lore of its neon universe, with Badowski eager to explore the capabilities of AI in future projects. “We think that AI is something that can help improve certain processes in game production, but not replace people,” he revealed.

Whatever comes, though, it’ll be quite a while before we get solid details because the next The Witcher game is the only prize we have locked in our sights.
