Dark Souls: The Willow King officially announced, coming this year

Dark Souls: The Willow King officially announced, coming this year

We're getting more Dark Souls lore, huzzah!

It’s been 84 years... or, at least, that’s how it feels. For Dark Souls fans, a new instalment to the tense saga feels like it’s been a long time coming. But finally, a new Dark Souls adventure has been announced.

Coming this year, Dark Souls: The Willow King is a graphic novel that’ll allow passionate fans take a break from the graphics of FromSoftware’s treasured yet stressful franchise, and explore a world of dark mysticism through a different medium.

If you haven't seen the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer, you're seriously missing out!

Fans of Bloodborne haven’t been forgotten either, with Bloodborne: The Bleak Dominion also announced at the same time as The Willow King. This isn’t quite the announcement long-standing Bloodborne players want, but it’s a start.

Both tales are available for pre-order on Amazon. However, they’re not written or illustrated by the same creatives – while The Bleak Dominion is written by Cullen Bunn, whereas The Willow King is written by “legendary Star Wars writer” George Mann.

The twisting narrative of this novel will be told across 112 pages, consisting of a deep dive into the fiery depths of this new lore. “The mighty king Ustrad of Uthrel linked the flame, after his servant Herad failed and was consumed by the fire, reduced to ashes.”

“Now, the time has come to link the fire again, but Ustrad now refuses to do his duty to his kingdom. Herad, resurrected as unkindled, returns to unite three mighty warriors to venture into the Willow King’s domain, and do what needs to be done…,” continues the description.

For those who can’t get enough of all this new lore to digest, there’s also a new Elden Ring release coming out besides Shadow of the Erdtree, and reportedly this year too.

All hail the might of FromSoft, Dark Souls, and our beloved, Bloodborne.
