As much as we adore Elden Ring here at GAMINGbible, the news of a free Elden Ring game hasn’t exactly filled us with confidence or excitement. In fact, it sounds like a nightmare the more we hear about it.
When we first heard that a new Elden Ring was in the works, we were thrilled; arguably, as one of FromSoftware’s best games, it’s ridiculous to think no one wants to see more of its world. But then the bad news that so often accompanies the good hit, and we were left wondering why bad things happen to us.
Although a new Elden Ring is reportedly happening, it’ll be a free mobile game, which hardly gels with what we know of the game and of FromSoftware. However, it’s not FromSoftware that’s the driving force on this project but rather Tencent Games.

Despite being a well-known and respected games publisher, the idea of all that epic majesty of Elden Ring being condensed down into a mobile game just doesn’t sit right with many people. Fortunately, it seems that a launch for said game is months, maybe even years, away yet because “progress has been slow”.
Perhaps it’s because most of us here don’t game on our mobiles, but we fear the controls will be ridiculously fiddly. However, Tencent is said to be aiming for a Genshin Impact-esque experience, which, while not overly fiddly, doesn’t make me think of Darks Souls or Elden Ring when I hear its name.

“God have mercy on us,” said one fan, while another joked that April Fool’s Day was a couple of months away yet. Ah, my fellow gamers, if only this was a joke.
We hope we’re wrong about the disconnect between the concept and its reality. For all our sakes. There were enough cursed games released in 2023 without one of the greatest games being turned into a clunky, knock-off joke.
