We’ve officially gotten our first proper look at Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree, the first, and last, major expansion for FromSoftware’s epic soulslike game.
Without a shadow of a doubt, it looks breathtaking. It almost makes the long wait for its reveal worth it, though now we’ll be waiting for it to release instead.

The Elden Ring trailer starts off with presumably Melina, looking on at the corpse of Miquella which will likely be how we access the DLC. We’re taken on a grand tour through some of the gorgeous areas we’ll soon get to explore, as well as voice overs from some of the main characters of the DLC, many of whom we’ve seemingly never met before.

New weapons and abilities were also shown-up, and it looks like there’ll be something new for basically every build to try out, whether you’re a classic strength build or mage. Honestly it seems like FromSoftware has outdone itself with the visuals and content packed into the DLC here.
We got a glimpse at some of the enemies and bosses that’ll be grinding us into the dust when the expansion drops, like an enormous fire giant and terrifying lion-beast thing. Thankfully there was no sign of the rot-infested Godskin Quartet that’s been heavily memed in the build up to the DLC. We also got a look at presumably the big-bad of the DLC, Messer The Impaler
Speculation prior to the trailer suggested Shadow Of The Erdtree would follow that old Dark Souls tradition of transporting the player to a different point in the timeline, and looking at the gameplay we can definitely speculate there’s some sort of travel involved, since a lot of the areas appear brand-new and potentially from before the events of the game.
As for a release date, the DLC is confirmed for release on 21 June later this year, thankfully not long to wait before we can once again venture into the Lands Between.

Elden Ring is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion will release 21 June 2024.
