As the hype surrounding Starfield’s exclusive Xbox launch dissipates, many Bethesda fans will be looking ahead to The Elder Scrolls VI. The next title in the Elder Scrolls series recently left its pre-production and planning phase, and has entered full development as the next title to be released by the developer.

Promises have already been made by Bethesda exec Todd Howard, who believes it’ll provide gamers with decades of content, as well as be the “ultimate fantasy world simulator.” He also thinks it could be the last game he works on as part of Bethesda.

Despite still being several years away from release, fans have already begun discussing what the game might be like, but more importantly, who’ll actually get to play it.

As we all know, Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, which owned Bethesda, in 2021 prompting Starfield’s exclusivity on the Xbox Series X/S. Fans wholeheartedly believe that this will mean all future Bethesda titles, including The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5, will also be exclusives to Microsoft’s platform.

Recently, the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer addressed the discourse, and while their answer was incredibly vague, it wasn’t an outright ‘no’ to The Elder Scrolls VI appearing on Sony’s platform.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Phil Spencer said: “We look at it on a case-by-case basis with the games that we build … We want to make sure our games are available in so many different places – on our Xbox consoles, on PC, also via cloud, these games can come to almost any web-enabled device.”

Spencer went on to say: “We’re looking at millions and millions of players who will have access to Starfield and other Xbox Game Studios games. It’s really about giving players choice around how they want to play and they build their library of games.”

Again, it’s vague, but it’s worth noting that Starfield was an entirely new IP, the first new IP Bethesda has released in years. For a series as prestigious as The Elder Scrolls, perhaps Microsoft will decide it’s better off keeping it multi-platform for better sales and better brand image?

Only time will tell, as The Elder Scrolls VI currently has no release date or window, though it’ll definitely be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
