Assassin's Creed 2 gets stunning modern overhaul that fixes game's biggest flaw

Assassin's Creed 2 gets stunning modern overhaul that fixes game's biggest flaw

Assassin’s Creed II is a classic

Depending on which fan you ask, some will give a different answer as to which game in the Assassin’s Creed series is best, but many may answer with Ubisoft’s 2009 entry.

The Assassin’s Creed series began in 2007 and it changed the game for publisher and developer Ubisoft. To this day, the original game is looked up fondly, despite ageing over time, which is why fans would love to see a modern Assassin’s Creed remake built from the ground up and it seems, that wish may soon be granted.

Check out the Assassin’s Creed II trailer below!

One of the reasons fans love 2009’s Assassin’s Creed II so much is not only due to its Italian Renaissance setting and immersive world but also thanks to one of the most charismatic video game characters of all time, Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Sure the gameplay may have also aged, especially when compared to the recent games in the series, but it may not be as clunky as you remember.

In November 2016, Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection which included remasters of Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed Revelations. While the games in this classic may have looked better (eventually), its gameplay remained untouched.

It’s fine leaving the gameplay untouched but even with the most near-perfect video games, there’s always room for improvement and this is where talented modders come into play to work their magic.

Reddit user legacyofthecreed shared a clip of the ‘Definitive AC2 Parkour Mod’ (created by HenryPDT) which is available to download for free via NexusMods. The clip showcased some very subtle quality-of-life improvements but in my experience, it’s those subtle improvements that can make the biggest difference.

AC2 has been a blast with the Definitive Parkour Mod. I made this parkour snippet using the mod, it includes features such as the Dive Beam, Parkour Down Close, the Super Hop/Jump on Handhole and the Vault Landing Far which if used correctly and not abused can give you more freedom,” they explained.

As with the nature of most mods, sadly, this particular one is only compatible with the PC version of Assassin’s Creed II. For for rest of us, we’ll make do with playing this classic as intended.
