If you haven’t played the FEAR games you absolutely should. They’re an FPS series that combine some incredibly exciting gunplay with plenty of psychological horror. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a new entry, and fans are honestly sick of waiting, but it lives on through fan-made projects that took inspiration from it.

Take a look at FEAR below

One game that’s clearly taken some inspiration from the series is Beneath, an upcoming indie shooter that’s early into development but looks really impressive so far.

Simply put, Beneath is a game about Noah Quinn, a skilled deep-sea diver who ends up in a nightmarish situation. The player is tasked with escaping an underwater location while fighting off an infestation of horrific monsters.

It’s being developed by Camel 101, which recently shared some gameplay footage showing off some of the cool features making their way into the game. While it looks like a solid shooter in its own right, arguably the most impressive detail is how destructible the environments are.

This applies to the walls, the lights, the furniture and more, all of which will wear away and fall apart as you pump them full of lead. It’s a great detail that’s often overlooked in modern games, so it’ll be great to see what the damage is like after a panicked shootout in one of the game’s rooms.

Also featured in the game are customisable weapons for maximum damage and adaptability, as well as intelligent AI that’ll give even the most seasoned first-person-shooter veterans a run for their money.

Beneath will launch on PC via Steam sometime in the future, though the game’s developer hasn’t been able to supply a release date at the time of writing. Nevertheless it is planned to launch this year so hopefully we see it sooner rather than later.
