Free game download: Last chance to grab critically acclaimed banger

PC gamers are truly spoilt for choice right now. Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 releasing within a couple of weeks of one another? It’s both criminal and a blessing. How am I supposed to keep up with both?

Both games are seeing immense success. After an expectation-exceeding critical and commercial release on PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 released on PS5 yesterday to even greater acclaim earning a whopping Metacritic score of 97. Starfield is sitting slightly lower at 87, but in our 10 out of 10 review, we wrote, “Every now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of. Starfield is that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout.”

Cave Story+ is available for all PC players to grab for free on the Epic Games Store but for a very limited time only. The game is only free for a few more hours, so you have until 4PM today BST to grab it. At the time of writing, that’s in roughly five hours time, so hurry. At that point, Spelldrifter will then become available instead so you can still grab a free banger.

Unfamiliar with Cave Story+? The game was developed by Nicalis Inc and Studio Pixel and was released back in 2020. It’s an enhanced version of the classic 2004 release, which sees players take on the role of Quote, a robot who awakens in a mysterious cavernous area with amnesia and must find his way out, all while trying to remember his backstory.

It’s a classic 2D pixel art Metroidvania, and many consider it to be one of the greatest indie games of all time seeing as it was originally developed by just one man, Daisuke ‘Pixel’ Amaya, back when it was first released in 2004. You really don’t want to miss out on this one.
