Metal Gear Solid gets stunning Unreal Engine 5 remake

Metal Gear Solid gets stunning Unreal Engine 5 remake

This Metal Gear Solid remake looks stunning powered by Unreal Engine 5

It’s fair to say that Konami’s Metal Gear Solid franchise is one of the most iconic properties in the video game industry with an equally iconic cast of characters.

The Metal Gear series began its life on the Nintendo Entertainment System with three instalments from 1987 to 1990. However, the series hit new heights of popularity and critical acclaim following the release of Metal Gear Solid in 1998 for the original PlayStation which starred the returning Solid Snake on a one-man espionage mission to the gruelling location of Shadow Moses.

Fans have been desperate to see a new Metal Gear Solid remake for years, other than Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes which was released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. That being said, if rumours are to be believed, we could soon be getting an official remake of the original Metal Gear Solid one day. What we do know for sure, is that Konami recently announced a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a game considered by some to be the greatest of all time.

While fans may have hoped for the first Metal Gear Solid game to receive a remake, it seems that the MGS3 remake, called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater could be the starting point for a series of remakes, so hopefully, we’ll get there eventually. Until that time arrives, talented indie developers have recreated a portion of the opening moments featuring Solid Snake’s infiltration in the helipad area of Shadow Moses powered by Unreal Engine 5.

The fan-made remake was created by JacktheLightning and BrokenK4ppa with footage of the impressive gameplay being uploaded to YouTube. By the looks of things, assets from recent games in the series have been implemented as well as sound bites from the 1998 classic.

It’s worth mentioning that this fan-made Metal Gear Solid remake is not available for public play to avoid the wrath of Konami lawyers. Interestingly, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is being made using Unreal Engine 5, so perhaps this fan-made remake could be giving us a fairly accurate glimpse into the future.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater does not have a release date at the time of writing but it is expected to be released this year for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
