PC gamers can download and keep an all-time great RPG for free

PC gamers can download and keep an all-time great RPG for free now thanks to Prime Gaming.

For players looking to experience where a much-loved franchise first began then look no further as 1997’s Fallout is now free to play courtesy of Amazon Prime Gaming.

Before the much-loved Fallout: New Vegas and way before Fallout 4, there was Fallout - a 1997 post-nuclear RPG title published by Interplay Productions. Consisting of just one programmer, Tim Cain, the epic Fallout series had humble beginnings and nobody knew it would go onto become one of the greatest RPG series of all time.

Inspiring other epic RPGs such as Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and its latest project, Starfield, Fallout was the starting place for many epic features that are still included in its newest entries. The instantly recognisable Pip Boy, Vault-Tec, Deathclaws and even the Brotherhood of Steel were first featured in the 1997 classic and are still iconic almost 30 years later.

The story of Fallout follows an unnamed Vault Dweller who decades after a nuclear war between the United States and China, finds themselves inhabiting an underground nuclear shelter known as Vault 13. With a busted water supply to fix, you are tasked with scouring the surrounding wasteland to find supplies and in typical Fallout fashion, you will be tasked with quests, quests and more quests on your journey.

If you never got around to playing Fallout then now is your time as Amazon Prime Gaming subscribers can download the game for free. As of 1 February, those eligible will receive a code from the service which will allow you to access the game on GOG.

Fallout will join other titles new to Prime Gaming this month such as Missile Command: Recharged, Blade Assault and Tempest 4000 to name a few. Make sure you don’t miss out on a classic, especially considering it may be a while until we see Fallout 5.
