Skyrim meets Stardew Valley in this delightful upcoming RPG

We’re in the midst of a golden age of RPGs. From Baldur’s Gate 3 to Dragon’s Dogma II, the last 12 months have been full of bangers, also including the likes of Starfield, Sea of Stars, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

RPGs often feature an expansive open-world, packed to the rafters with challenging enemies to best and ordinary citizens who need our help, and this is all whilst we usually tackle a problem plaguing the entirety of the lands we find ourselves in.

That being said, RPGs don’t need to be enormous nor hardcore. In fact, much like the very pleasant aforementioned Sea of Stars, the upcoming Mirthwood looks to draw back the scale in what’s shaping up to be a magical medieval fantasy RPG.

Developed by Bad Ridge Games and set to be published by V Publishing, Mirthwood is equal parts Skyrim and Stardew Valley - blending a medieval fantasy world with cottagecore farming sim gameplay.

Sea of Stars is well worth checking out if you haven’t already done so.

“Embark on an enchanting journey and brave ferocious creatures in an immersive medieval fantasy world. Will you settle a new homestead to live a life of farming and trade, or pick up the sword and take up the adventurers' path?” teases the synopsis.

In terms of gameplay, Mirthwood will task you with building a farm, planting and harvesting crops, raising animals, trading goods from town to town, taking up arms against bandits and werewolves, and dealing with weather conditions and illnesses which threaten your survival. Just a couple of things to take care of then.

Its hand-drawn graphics look positively delightful - and it’s said that the game includes six diverse regions for us to explore.

As with any good RPG, you’ll also have the opportunity to befriend and help out this world’s NPCs, creating cherished relationships as you do so.

Unfortunately, Mirthwood isn’t out just yet but it is aiming to launch in Q3 of this year which runs from July to September. We’ll be keeping an eye on its progress.
