Starfield update to massively boost framerate, Bethesda confirms

Starfield update to massively boost framerate, Bethesda confirms

Bethesda has announced a new update which will finally address Starfield's framerate.

Well, just days after Starfield dropped its biggest update released thus far, Bethesda has announced that another is on the way - and this one tackles something players have long had an issue with, Starfield’s framerate.

Let’s backtrack just a little bit first. In case you missed it, Starfield’s whopping Update 1.9.51.0 launched across all platforms earlier this week after previously only being available in beta testing via Steam. At the time, we noted that despite providing Starfield with a massive graphics boost, the update surprisingly hadn’t touched the framerate or resolution. It did, however, fix various bugs covering the areas of quests, exploration, and outpost building whilst also ironing out any graphical glitches and adjusting lighting. The good news is that now, an update is finally coming to address Starfield’s framerate. There is one catch though.

Take a look at our review of Starfield below.

The catch is that the update is only going to be available for PC players. Sorry Xbox folk, which sadly includes myself. Bethesda took to Twitter to announce the news, writing, “We're excited to share that AMD FSR 3 is coming to Starfield Steam Beta next week! FSR 3 will be available to all PC players later this month ahead of our next scheduled update.”

As the tweet quite clearly states, the update will enter beta testing next week with Starfield’s community able to give it a whirl, before rolling out to all PC players in late February. If you aren’t familiar with AMD FSR 3 - and granted, it is a bunch of random letters - it’s essentially a dev tool that improves a game’s performance and visual quality. The programme upscales by adding Frame Generation, allowing the game to present the user with an improved number of frames per second.

You may recall that Starfield hit the headlines upon launch for capping the game at 30fps, which is somewhat understandable given the sheer size of its world. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of visual results this update yields.
