It has been a long road for The Elder Scrolls VI since it was first announced back in 2018. Now over five years later, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has shared some news about the game’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox exclusivity.
It is no surprise that fans went wild over the announcement of an upcoming Elder Scrolls game during 2018’s E3. However, with over five years without any word, it had started to become a distant memory. August 2023 saw The Elder Scrolls VI enter full development but the delay could see the fantasy RPG not being released until at least 2028. It’s no wonder Skyrim Grandma is afraid she will miss it!

Now four months on from the latest announcement, Phil Spencer spoke about The Elder Scrolls VI’s exclusivity in an interview with Bloomberg.

‘We look at it on a case-by-case basis with the games that we build,’ says Spencer. ‘We want to make sure our games are available in so many different places – on our Xbox consoles, on PC, also via cloud, these games can come to almost any web-enabled device.’
He adds: ‘We’re looking at millions and millions of players who will have access to Starfield and other Xbox Game Studios games. It’s really about giving players a choice around how they want to play and they build their library of games.’
However, this is not what Spencer said back in 2021 where he claimed that all Bethesda titles would launch on Xbox only (much to the surprise of Bethesda). This included Elder Scrolls 6. Either Spencer has forgotten about this comment or we will see the next Elder Scrolls title arrive to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
With a long way to go until we see the release of The Elder Scrolls VI, we could have even moved on to our next generation of consoles. Regardless of its exclusivity, it will definitely be a title millions of people will be picking up.
