Free PlayStation Plus game is “gorgeous” but “the furthest thing from fun” according to fans

PlayStation Plus has some absolute bangers if you know where to look, unfortunately this game simply isn’t one of them.

While the esteemed Hideo Kojima is often celebrated as one of the greatest video designers ever, Death Stranding isn’t his best work.

If you haven’t played the game it’s currently available to try at no additional cost as part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue, though it’s not widely recommended. The game follows Norman Reedus, who plays the protagonist Sam Porter Bridges, who’s tasked with reuniting human colonies as a glorified postman.

While the story isn’t the worst thing in the world, it's the gameplay that really dragged the game down for the majority of players, with Reddit user shreder75 explaining exactly why in a post.

They said despite the game looking “gorgeous,” it’s “the furthest thing from fun.” They went on to say “mashing trigger buttons to constantly keep from falling so you can deliver a power supply to a wind farm … then running his cargo back to where you just came from is not my idea of a good time.” The player concluded that the whole game feels like Hideo Kojima is “trolling” his fanbase with such weird game design.

It’s certainly not for everyone, in fact I’d go as far to say it’s the Marmite of gaming, people either hate it with a passion or love it to death. One player in the comments called it “the most polarising game ever.”

Another said |It was hard to get into, but it gets better when you start connecting with other player's work. But it's really hard to recommend it to anyone.”

Finally one player confessed: ‘The most fun I had was delivering everything I could with 5 stars. Don’t know why the dopamine effect is pretty good.”

Death Stranding just isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, if you want to play a game where you’re a badass courier play Fallout: New Vegas instead.
