Horizon Zero Dawn meets Ratchet & Clank in free PlayStation 5 download

Horizon Zero Dawn meets Ratchet & Clank in free PlayStation 5 download

Fans of Horizon Zero Dawn and the Ratchet & Clank series will undoubtedly enjoy the underrated Biomutant.

If you haven’t yet sampled Biomutant, please take this as your sign to do so. Combining a fuzzy alien hero à la the Ratchet & Clank series with an open-world similar to that which you will find in both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, it’s an absolute must-play that to this day, flies a tad under the radar.

Developed by Experiment 101 and published by THQ Nordic, Biomutant launched back in 2021 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports landing in the following year. It’s by no means a flawless game, but there’s heaps of fun to be had in this action RPG. Set in The New World, Biomutant’s story kicks off when the Tree of Life becomes blighted by a poisonous soil, sending the land’s various tribes into conflict and disarray over what to do next. It’s up to you to utilise the Karma system to influence the tribes while, of course, fighting off an array of foes.

Take a look at Biomutant in action below.

Back when Biomutant launched, we awarded the game a score of nine, writing, “Biomutant is a superb open-world, action-focused RPG. You can fight to your heart's content, meander through gorgeous and bleak environments, and enjoy a story that takes you to far corners of a wonderful in-game map. It's not always easy on the eye, but look a little deeper and you'll see it's brimming with beauty.” Over on Metacritic, the score sits at 79 on the Xbox Series X compared to 69 on PS5.

If you’re wondering whether the game is for you, a two-hour game trial is now available to PlayStation Plus premium users which should be plenty of time for you to decide whether you want to dive into the full release. You may recall that Biomutant was an essential tier freebie back in December of 2022 so you may already have it sitting in your library, ready to be enjoyed.

Unfortunately, there’s no free trial for Xbox users but the game is on sale for the next 12 days, reduced to a price of £13.99 - not bad at all for something that’ll take you around 40 hours plus to reach full completion.
