The next Horizon game will reportedly be an MMORPG according to insider sources.

The next Horizon game will reportedly be an MMORPG according to insider sources.

Following on from Horizon: Forbidden West and its stunningly good DLC expansion Burning Shores, developer Guerrilla Games promised a whopping 16 projects set in the same universe are in the works.

Horizon: Forbidden West recently got a PC release, check it out below

While one of those will definitely continue the story of Aloy, others are seemingly leaning towards the spin-off category, one of which being an MMORPG that has been “essentially confirmed” to be in active development.

Researcher Kurakasis has conveniently compiled everything known about the unannounced game on Twitter, saying it’s currently being developed under the codename Project Skyline.

While the official name of the project is unknown, it’s rumoured it could be called Land of Salvation, as developer NCSoft recently registered a domain of the same name. It’s said it’s being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and is expected to launch sometime in late 2024 or 2025.

An MMORPG would lend itself quite well to the world of Horizon, since survival is already an enormous driving factor in existing and future stories. Shifting the experience to an large-scale online format seems like a no brainer, especially given the immense popularity of the series.

Unfortunately there’s no mention of the game being released on PlayStation 5, instead favouring a release on PCs and mobile devices. It’s an odd move to be sure, especially since Horizon is arguably one of Sony’s biggest console exclusives, often being used in marketing for new consoles and its subscription service PlayStation Plus.

Regardless, more Horizon is definitely a good thing no matter what form it comes in, and while NCSoft is working on the MMORPG it means Guerilla Games will be hard at work on the next mainline game which is shaping up to be a trilogy.

Obviously take this with a pinch of salt, as at the time of writing there’s been no confirmation on whether Kurakasis’ findings are credible or not.
