New PlayStation 5 controller appears online with a much better battery life

Sony looks set to launch an updated Version 2 DualSense controller, boasting a longer-lasting battery.

Fair to say, Sony’s PlayStation 5 DualSense controller is easily one of the best controllers of all time.

While visually, it was a major switch-up compared to the PlayStation 4’s DUALSHOCK 4, the DualSense is undeniably aesthetically pleasing. It’s comfortable to hold, but the real standout feature is the fact that its haptic feedback capabilities are unmatched, adding an incredible level of immersion to a wide variety of games. If the DualSense has one downside though, it’s with regards to the battery life. Personally, I haven’t struggled with the battery life since I began using the DualSense Charging Station but oh my, I do remember the dark days of having to use the charging lead.

Timed PlayStation 5 exclusive Final Fantasy VI Rebirth launches next month, on 29 February 2024. Take a look at the latest trailer below.

It is no fun whatsoever being in the middle of a hefty five-hour plus gaming session, only to have to scooch uncomfortably close to your TV / console set-up to plug the DualSense in - your eyes incapable of taking in whatever is happening on the screen that close up. If you suffer from that problem, Sony appears to have a new solution landing on the market very soon. A ‘Version 2’ DualSense has been spotted online - and it boasts a stronger battery life.

As shared on Twitter by TCMF2, the listing was spotted on US retailer Best Buy. Titled the PlayStation 5 V2 DualSense Wireless Controller - White, the description boasted that the device featured an “exceptional 12-hour battery life, on a full charge” which “supports long gaming sessions”. To compare, the current DualSense doesn’t have an official battery life. The estimated range is six to 12 hours though, with most users finding it lasts between six and nine, depending on the age of the device.

As such, if the V2 DualSense can steadily hit 12 hours, it would be an easy upgrade. It’s believed that everything else about the controller will remain the same. Clearly, Sony is yet to formally announce the device but if it’s been spotted on retail sites, it can be assumed that an announcement is coming imminently.
