PlayStation 5 massive system update available now, adds tons of new features

Sony has announced a major new PlayStation 5 console software update - and it includes loads of new features.

The latest PlayStation 5 software update is rolling out globally today - and it’s chock-full with a ton of new features.

It’s already shaping up to be a busy day for PlayStation. Later on, we’ll find out the latest additions to PlayStation Plus’ extra and premium tier catalogues. Many of the titles have already leaked and to say that the line-up is underwhelming is an understatement. Fans are certainly not happy given the recent price rise. There are also rumours of an upcoming State of Play, but those are yet to be proven true. What PlayStation has announced though is the rolling out of a brand new PS5 console software update, and there are so many new features for us to dive into.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 swings onto our consoles next month. Take a look at the game in action below.

The update introduces PS Remote Play support for additional Android devices, namely those running Android TV OS 12. So far, the Chromecast with Google TV (4K model) and BRAVIA XR A95L model are confirmed devices. Additionally, PS5 users in the US and UK can now experiment with new voice command options, such as saying, ‘Hey PlayStation help’, to bring up all help options.

The update also includes all of the features announced in the most recent beta. That beta testing has now drawn to a close so all PS5 users can benefit from new accessibility features (including adding a second controller for assistance and adjusting system UI haptic feedback), as well as support for compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices. There’s also been a Party UI update, it’s easier to join friends’ game sessions, there’s a new game hub tournaments tile, you can search for games in your library, help cards have been improved, and you can now use a larger-capacity M.2 SSD.

The biggest update of all though? Yes, we can all now turn off the PS5 start up beep. Rounding us out, later this month, the PlayStation app will be updated, allowing users to react with emojis to messages and preview someone’s share screen before joining a party.
