PlayStation 6 first game quietly announced, and you probably missed it

The PlayStation 5 is barely three years old, but it looks like we already have our first PlayStation 6 game - and it's a good one.

It's been a pretty killer run for the PlayStation 5 so far, with hits like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Astro's Playroom, the latter of which I maintain is one of the best console exclusives of all time and I totally wish it were longer and why don't we have more Astro's Playroom and I think I'm starting to ramble but oh my god guys that game is just so damn good. What was I talking about?

Oh yeah, the PlayStation 6. So we have no idea what the PlayStation 6 will look like, or when it's coming, or really anything about it. But it turns out the first PlayStation 6 game was technically quietly announced last week, and pretty much nobody noticed.

January's State Of Play gave us an exciting look at what we can expect to see on PlayStation 5 through 2024 and beyond (Rise Of The Ronin was a highlight). But the presentation ended with the surprise announcement of a brand-new IP from Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding mastermind Hideo Kojima.

PHYSINT (working title) is Kojima's grand return to stealth action, and promises to use all the latest technology to create something truly unique. And given we're talking about Kojima here, you know he's going to deliver something unlike anything you've ever seen - like it or not.

“PHYSINT will be the third, new original IP since the establishment of KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS," Kojima wrote on Twitter. "It is a completely new “Action Espionage” for the next-generation. It will be created using cutting-edge technology and the best talents from around the world, both from film and video games."

Kojima's next game is Death Stranding 2, which is expected to arrive in 2025. After that we're getting a new horror game called OD, which currently doesn't have a release date but will probably land 2026-2027.

Given this, we can reasonably assume that Physint won't arrive until 2028 at the absolutely earliest, which means it's likely to skip PlayStation 5 and land on PlayStation 6. A potential launch title for the next-gen console? We wouldn't bet against it.
