In order to increase security measures for all its customers, Sony is set to roll out an important update which will introduce passkey support to the PlayStation Network.
Sony is set to roll out an important update to all PlayStation users over the next few weeks which will add a passkey to all PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 units. The passkey will allow players to log into their accounts without the need of a password by using other methods such as fingerprints, face scans and PINs.

The webpage for the PlayStation passkey is already live and players can now activate their very own passkeys. What we do know is that those who wish to activate the passkey can set it up via the Security panel of the PSN’s Account Management page. This can be accessed via the PS4, PS5, PS App or PlayStation website.

“A passkey also reduces the vulnerability associated with traditional password-based systems,” Sony writes. “Passkeys are safer than passwords because they are resistant to phishing and other types of cyberattacks like data breaches.”
It is clear that the reason behind this addition is to increase security for PlayStation users which Sony itself explains on the official website in the full statement: “A passkey also reduces the vulnerability associated with traditional password-based systems: It cannot be guessed or reused, is tied to your account for PlayStation Network and can only be accessed by you. Passkeys are safer than passwords because they are resistant to phishing and other types of cyberattacks like data breaches.”
Not only will it increase security but it is also a much faster way to log into your PSN accounts and with passwords slowly becoming a thing of the past, it is no wonder Sony is staying with the times.
